Permanent Haircolor
There are two types of permanent haircolor: Those that lighten and deposit in one step and those that deposit but do not lighten. Both must be mixed with a developer. Permanent haircolor provides up to 100% gray coverage and lasts until hair grows out, fading gradually over a long period of time.

Demi-Permanent, Semi-Permanent and Temporary Haircolor
These haircolor types are used to enhance, match or darken natural haircolor and blend-in gray. They do not lighten the hair and are not used with a developer. Generally, demi-permanent color lasts up to 16 shampoos, semi-permanent lasts up to 8 shampoos and temporary lasts up to 2 shampoos.

Liquid/Gel Lighteners
Liquid and gel lighteners are used for on- and off-the-scalp lightening. Clairol Professional liquid lighteners decolorize the hair’s natural pigment quickly and easily. Some require a dedicated developer and, to speed lightening action, an activator, accelerator, or protinator can be added.
Powder Lighteners
Powder lighteners are used for off-the-scalp lightening needs, such as highlighting and other special effects. Some Clairol Professional powders provide lightening only, while one offers both lightening and toning in only 10 minutes.

Color Removers
Color removal is a specialized salon treatment often used for corrective coloring or when a color change is desired. Clairol Professional Color Removers are designed to remove both permanent and semi-permanent haircolor quickly and gently.

Developers
Developers must be mixed with lighteners, permanent haircolors and certain toners to produce final color results. There are creme and liquid forms, and some haircolors require the use of a dedicated developer formulated specifically for the color product.
