How To Make The Cut
VOLUME 3
While everyone gets a bad case of the nervous jitters in these situations, these expert tips will help get you through this important time during your career!
The Interview And The First Day Do's
- For the interview: dress conservatively; bring a resume that not only lists previous jobs, but also any school achievements, community activities, clubs and group activities.
- Be honest about your skills and interests. Salon managers know when someone isn't truthful with them; don't let them think you're not trustworthy.
- Salon managers want team players; use the word "we" rather than the word "I".
- On your first day of work: demonstrate how well you like working with people; show you're eager and willing to learn.
- Be an observer on your first day of work; watch other stylists at work and always be friendly!
- For the interview and first day of work: check and double-check your appearance. This isn't the day to have a "bad hair day!"
- Don't appear overconfident or like you know it all. Refrain from gossip ...this is not professional!
- Don't ever bad mouth former employers. This is very important because salon industry people tend to stay in touch with one another. It's likely that what you say will get back to them.
While this is a lot of info to remember during a hectic time in your life, if you always use common sense and honesty as your guides, you'll always be a winner. You've come a long way in school ... you'll do great!
